To have some good support for both you and your partner when you have had your baby is so important in those first few weeks. It means that you have time to focus on getting to know your baby and time together as a family.
A Postnatal Doula will be there for you when you have had your baby to support you both emotionally and practically to help you with the transition of being parents to one, two , three… children. They recognise that becoming a parent is a life changing event and you need support to find your own way of doing things.
There is also someone experienced to help and encourage you with feeding, caring for your baby as well as other tasks in the house that are important to you, so that you can fully recover from the birth of your baby both physically and emotionally. Rest is essential and new babies are wonderfully time consuming, so enjoy having that extra pair of hands to care for you and your baby so that you can recover gently.
I am based near Towcester in Northamptonshire and would normally travel up to half an hour for postnatal work although often it is further than this.
I would come for a minimum of four hours per session but often to begin with it is more than this. It may be every day or only a few days a week and at a time that suits you.
I offer an initial complementary meeting to discuss my package and how I could help.
As a Postnatal Doula I can do a variety of things but often it is the following:
- Support you both emotionally and physically and make sure there is the space and peace for you to rest
- Help to support you with feeding whether it be breastfeeding, expressing or formula feeding
- Settling your baby for you while you rest
- Guide you through caring for your baby
- Make sure all the jobs that bother you are done – within reason!
- Light housework
- Cook meals for you and your partner
